Boxing.

Boxing is one of the most effective striking skillsets and also one of the most popular  combat sports in the world. Its a highly skill based sport in which two people engage in a contest of strength, speed, agility, reflexes and endurance. Punches are the only strikes allowed, and gloves are used to protect the hands from injury.  Amateur boxing is an Olympic and Commonwealth sport and is a common fixture in most of the major international games. It also has its own World Championships. Professional boxers are the highest paid athletes in the world.

The highest level of amateur achievement for the sport is the winning of an Olympic gold medal, and as a professional, winning a world title from one of four main sanctioning bodies (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO). Notable practitioners include Mike Tyson,  Vasyl Lomachenko, Muhammed Ali, Roy Jones Junior, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Fraiser and many others.

Boxing and MMA.

Boxing skills are absolutely essential for anyone looking to compete in mixed martial arts. Although the skills learnt here can’t all be used for MMA without tweaking and adapting, it provides a superb base for mixed martial arts fighting. All Punches, Evasion, footwork and punching combinations all have a direct carryover into MMA

1) Being light on your feet : Clean footwork is key. A lot of focus is given to constant movement and linking of kinetic chains with striking.

2) Speed and Accuracy : Strikes are an important part of fighting in mma, and boxing provides an excellent training ground for picking up great striking skills.

3) Endurance: The sweet science and endurance go hand in hand. Fighters have great endurance, and are able to withstand upto 12 rounds of gruelling fighting. The training involved in boxing pumps up endurance to very high levels. It also gives a host of other benefits, as described below.

Boxing for Fitness & Health.

If you think Boxing is just a sport for the rough and tough, you’re wrong. It’s now one of the most popular fitness regimens out there, and if it’s a lean, mean and ripped body you’re looking for, this is a great sport to help you get there.

Its not just a workout for the arms, it’s a high intensity cardio and neuromuscular  workout for the whole body.  The training consists of a lot of drills for punches, squats and pushups, and also a lot of running and sprinting.

It works great as a program for anyone looking for weight loss, overall fat reduction but more importantly it will take your endurance and explosive power through the roof and leave you with some ridiculoisly effective self defence skills to boot.
